SUMMARY:Competent scientific interaction with China
DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday June 24, 2025 the Chair for Sinology with a focus on the Intellectual and Cultural History of China (Alexander von Humboldt Professorship) led by our FAU MoD member Prof. Dr. Dr. Andrea Bréard at FAU, Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg is hosting:\nRechtsfragen der Wissenschaftskooperation mit China\nEvent: Competent scientific interaction with China\nOrganizer: KoWinChi (Erlangen)\nSpeakers:\nProf. Dr. Björn Alpermann, Universität Würzburg\nDr. Daniel Sprick, Universität zu Köln\n-Legal issues of scientific cooperation with China\n-Module design and implementation\nRequirement to avoid legal pitfalls in cooperation with China, including intellectual property rights, data transfers, surveys, state secrets and dual-use technologies.\nSpecial features and preparation of Chinese institutions for cooperation.\nIntroduction to the legal framework and “red lines” of cooperation with China, creation of a common understanding of legal specifics and ensuring appropriate standards.\nRegistration\nRegistration is free but mandatory.\nRegistration link: https://www.phil.uni-wuerzburg.de/kowinchi/anmeldung/\nWHEN\nTue. June 24, 2025\n09:00H – 15:00H\nWHERE\nHartmannstrasse\n91052 Erlangen\nKoWinChi\nKoWinChi „Competence in Research Cooperation with China”.\nCooperation with China is indispensable in many scientific disciplines. Chinese scientists today conduct research at an international level. Especially in natural science, the education of young Chinese scientists is often outstanding. In addition, Chinese institutions offer attractive research opportunities. Research cooperation with China therefore takes place today on an equal footing. At the same time, cooperation has become more complex because it takes place against the background of increased economic competition and system rivalry. Economic competition leads to concerns regarding intellectual property rights, industrial espionage or dual-use technologies. System rivalry raises questions about the safety of foreign scientists in China, the protection of freedom of expression, and academic freedom in general. The existing differences in scientific culture and academic socialization pose significant challenges for cooperation and the training of young Chinese scientists in Germany. Against this background, the project „Competence in Research Cooperation with China” (KoWinChi) aims to prepare scientists and science support staff at universities and research institutions for cooperation with China.\nThis event @LinkedIn\nAbout KoWinChi\nSee more: KoWinChi’s portal\n \nYou might like:\n• FAU MoD Lectures\n• Upcoming events\n• FAU MoD Lecture: AI for maths and maths for AI by Dr. François Charton\n• FAU MoD Lecture: Optimization-based control for large-scale and complex systems: When and why does it work? by Prof. Dr. Lars Grüne\n• FAU MoD Lecture: Mathematics of neural stem cells: Linking data and processes by Prof. Dr. Ana Martin-Villalba\n• FAU MoD Lecture: FAU MoD Lecture S.
