Date: Mon. June 23, 2025
Event: FAU MoD Lecture
Organized by: FAU MoD, the Research Center for Mathematics of Data at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (Germany)
FAU MoD Lecture: AI for maths and maths for AI
Speaker: Dr. François Charton
Affiliation: Meta | FAIR | École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées
Abstract. I will present recent results, demonstrating that language models can be trained, from generated data only, to solve hard and open problems in mathematics. The main difficulty, here, is to generate training data. On the other hand, mathematics provides useful benchmarks for understanding how AI models learn.
OUR SPEAKER
François Charton is a research Engineer in Meta, FAIR, and also work in École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées. He graduated from École Polytechnique and École Nationale de la Statistique et de l’Administration Economique, and joined Meta in 2019, after a career in advertising, media, and as an entrepreneur. His research focuses on applications of deep learning to mathematics and theoretical physics. He is especially interested in how language models can be used to help scientific discovery, and how advanced mathematical problems can be used as benchmarks to help understand deep learning.
AUDIENCE
This is a hybrid event (On-site/online) open to: Public, Students, Postdocs, Professors, Faculty, Alumni and the scientific community all around the world.
